What does GDPR mean – don’t be daunted it really is quite straight forward – General Data Protection Regulation

It has been over complicated in the press because they need a story and this has meant that businesses are perhaps seeing it as a potentially damaging new law and are petrified of being fined thousands of pounds for not being compliant – I also think that the name is not overly helpful as many people still have no clue what it stands for or what it is – so in this video I aim to demystify and simply the new data management law.

It is a really positive regulation in which the European Parliament, European Commission, The Council of European Union strengthen and unify data protection across Europe.

It means we hae to ensure our prospects and customers OPT IN and we need to ensure our existing data and new data is handled correctly – we must be able to prove ‘digitally’ that the subscriber opted-in by checking a box or clicking a link to verify and authorise they wish to receive ‘marketing communication‘ – mass broadcast.

You must be able to show source and data of how that subscriber opted-in.

You can’t assume customers are opted-in and this should work to our advantage and rid a lot of spam and ensure our data is clean and only those interested receive email campaigns so conversions should be vastly improved.

You also need to ensure you register with the ICO as a data handler.
